Dr. Sowjanya J (BAMS, MD-Ayu, PhD, MA Sanskrit)* is a distinguished Ayurvedic physician, academician, and research scholar currently serving as Associate Professor and Consultant in the Department of Kayachikitsa at S.D.M.I.A.H, Bengaluru. With her academic journey rooted in classical Ayurveda and Sanskrit scholarship, she represents a rare blend of traditional wisdom and modern research orientation.
She completed her undergraduate studies at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Ayurveda and Hospital, Hassan, and pursued her post-graduation from A.L.N. Rao Ayurvedic Memorial Medical College, Koppa. In addition to her MD (Ayurveda), she earned an MA in Sanskrit from KSOU, Mysore, further strengthening her command over classical Ayurvedic texts. She is currently pursuing her PhD at Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Hubli under expert academic guidance.
Since beginning her professional journey in 2011, Dr. Sowjanya J has dedicated herself to academics, research, and holistic patient care. She has published numerous research papers in reputed national and international journals and has presented scholarly papers at prestigious seminars, earning recognition for Best Paper Presentations. Her research contributions cover diverse clinical topics including Diabetes Mellitus, Hypothyroidism, Sciatica (Gridhrasi), Tennis Elbow, Sleep Disorders, and Ayurvedic psychological therapies.
Beyond publications, she serves as a reviewer for reputed international publishing platforms and has been honored with a “Certificate of Excellence in Reviewing” by the Asian Journal of Medicine and Health. She is also the Editor-in-Chief for the book series Futuristic Trends in Medical Sciences (Volume 3), published by Iterative International Publishers.
A passionate educator, she believes that knowledge must be shared and carried forward. Her mission is to guide students toward practicing authentic, research-backed Ayurveda for societal benefit. Alongside academics, she has represented RGUHS University at the national level in sports and is a Rashtrapathi Puraskar awardee in Scouts and Guides — reflecting her multi-dimensional excellence.
Dr. Sowjanya J has been recognized with numerous prestigious honors, including International Best Research Scholar Award, Young Researcher Award, Woman Educationist of the Year (2023), Pride of India Award, Healthcare Research and Publications Award (2024), and Best Holistic Healthcare Provider Award (2025).
